The Max-Born-Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (www.mbi-berlin.de) is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V." and is a member of the "Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (WGL)". With about 180 employees the institute pursues basic research on and with lasers for ultra-short light pulses.
In Division B: Light Matter Interaction in Intense Laser Fields (Director: Prof. Dr. W. Sandner) a position is offered for a
Doctoral student
in the field of experimental atomic and molecular physics. The position is immediately available for a 3-year term. The academic degree (Dr. rer. nat.) will be obtained from the Technische Universität Berlin.
The successful applicant will be offered the opportunity to work on a major experimental research project on atomic and molecular dynamics in high-intensity ultra-short laser pulses. The available experimental techniques are based on a highly sophisticated reaction microscope that allows for a full kinematical analysis of the final state of a reaction, combined with MBI"s state-of-the-art laser systems. The specific project aims at the comprehension of the correlated multi-particle dynamics during the interaction of an ultra-short high-intensity laser pulse with molecules at large internuclear separation. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in the further development of the laser system. This comprises pulse compression to the sub 10 femtosecond time regime and carrier-envelope phase stabilization of the ultra-short light pulses.
