Research / Job description ATTOFEL 2 : Electron Dynamics in Plasmonic Systems
In the last few years two ultrafast extreme-ultraviolet (XUV)/x-ray light sources are revolutionizing the way in which light-matter interactions can be investigated. On the one hand, the ability to produce attosecond laserpulses (1 as = 0.001 fs = 10-18 s) by high-harmonic generation(HHG) has created exciting new opportunities for studying electronic processes. While previously most knowledge about electronic processes was obtained from frequency-domain spectroscopic studies, it has now become possible to study electronic processes time-resolved on their natural - attosecond - timescale. On the other hand, XUV/x-ray free electron laser sources are creating novel opportunities to measure (time-resolved) molecular structures by means of new experimental approaches that are based on diffraction.
In this project, which is linked to the establishment of an EU network coordinated by MBI, we will make use of the free electron laser FLASH in Hamburg, the LCLS source in Stanford and the SCSS source in Japan to develop a new method to investigate time-resolved molecular dynamics, which is based on angle- and energy-resolved measurements of electrons that are produced by photo-ionizing the molecules.

Applications with a cv, a description of the research experience, publication list and - if available - recommendation letters should be sent before October 31, 2010 by mail or email to Prof. Marc Vrakking, Max-Born-Institut, Max-Born-Str. 2 a, D-12489 Berlin, Germany, Email marc.vrakking@mbi-berlin.de.
In addition, applications should comprise the motivation on why you want to join the group (max. 1 page). Applications without this motivation will not be taken into account. However, with this motivation your application will receive our full attention.
The MBI aims at increasing its female staff and thus solicits strongly the application of female scientists. Equally qualified female applicants will be preferred. Handicapped persons with equal qualification will be preferred.
